This small technology company in Utrecht has been in the market for years now and they are rapidly changing the world of learning. The have been able to combine algorithms, (Big) Data, Security, science and regulations in such a way, that they are disrupting the world of education Big Time! As a result, they developed a ground-breaking learning technology that has been used by industry leaders both national and International.

Their product is used by hundreds of thousands off end users and this is growing rapidly. To meet de demand and keep the performance they are about to rebuild from scratch and refactor the current systems. A long side of building the new systems, new features will be developed keep up with the latest requirements from the end users. Their current technology stack consists of technologies like Java 8, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Docker, Spring Boot, Cassandra and Docker. But the company is very much open to adapt new technology if it´s proven te be better than the current technology. Their delivery pipeline is based on TDD, CI and CD. They deploy several time a week. So, a good place to work with modern technology and real craftmanship.

The company is small and informal with short communication lines, the CTO is right next to you! More than 50% of the employees are software engineers, so their environment is very tech savvy. There is a lot of room to develop yourself. You have smart and experienced colleagues around you, you can visit meetups and conferences and you get the change to do some R&D and POC’s. They also host meet-ups and they have set up their own open source environment.

Your role Java Software engineer De Meern

In your role as Java Software engineer De Meern you will work in a full stack Agile team, together with Java en JavaScript software engineers from their Head Quarter in Utrecht. You will work mainly on greenfield projects. All systems will be developed from scratch or being refactored. Security, scalability and performance are key here.

The demand for their products is rapidly growing, therefor they need to be (near) future proof. You will individual or with your team work from story to story. Here you got the chance to be involved in design and architecture. Also, if you are not that experienced yet, here you can learn on the job and every opinion counts. You will also get the opportunity to do POC’s for the right use case with some R&D to dig into new technologies. Here you can try Scala, Kotlin, NodeJS or any other technology, but that is up to you.

Growth opportunities

The organisation is rapidly growing, so getting on board now means growing with the company. As a Medior Software Engineer you can grow into Senior Java Software Engineer. Your responsibilities will grow and you will get more responsibilities and more proficient in new technologies and design and architecture. As they are moving toward more different services end more development team. As a Senior Software engineer you can grow into the role of a Lead Java Software Engineer.

What is required?

Minimum of two years of profession Java Software Engineering experience
Experience with Java 8 is a plus
Experience with Spring and REST is a plus
Experience with Cassandra or other NoSQL technology is a plus
Experience with Elasticsearch is a plus
Experience with Microservices, Docker and/or Kubernetes is a plus
Experience with Kafka and or Spark is a plus
Experience with security and tools like SamL and/or OAuth is a plus

What is offered?

Salary between € 42.120 and € 62.000 based on experience

From their site and reviews they looked like very professional recruiters and i was not wrong. In about 2 weeks i had a couple interviews at a variety of big tech companies and got a good offer pretty soon thereafter.They guided, prepared me for the interviews and helped with the final negotiations. I was looking for a role as a senior Scala developer in Amsterdam/Utrecht region.I was specifically looking to apply for one company through CodeGuild, but in the initial interview they also presented me with a couple of other options for companies which would be a good fit for me.They were very friendly, helpful and supportive, without being pushy. There was targeted help with prep for the interviews/assessments which was specific to each company, and they enabled me to give the best account for myself (definitely better than if I'd been preparing on my own).In the end I accepted an offer from one of the companies they presented me with instead of the original company I had in mind.
