Your role: Tech lead Utrecht Utrecht

As a Tech lead Utrecht Utrecht, you are the end-to-end technical owner of the core platform: a configuration-driven workflow and data platform on which other teams build their domains. You design and build the engine itself, but your impact goes far beyond writing code.

You make architectural trade-offs between flexibility, security, performance and maintainability. You help define how domain logic can be safely expressed through configuration, how mappings remain correct and scalable, and how multi-tenancy is structurally implemented. You act as a sparring partner for other teams when modelling their domains and safeguard platform consistency and long-term vision.

This is explicitly an individual contributor role at Tech lead level. You remain hands-on while providing technical direction. You write code for critical components, define architectural boundaries and ensure the platform is reliable, understandable and powerful. No people management, but strong technical leadership with real impact.

What is required

Experience at staff, principal or tech lead level in backend engineering
Proven architectural responsibility in complex software environments
7+ years of experience with Java (17+) and Spring Boot in modern architectures
Experience with SaaS platforms and multi-tenancy is a strong plus
Experience working at a start/scaleup is a plus
Comfortable working with abstract systems such as config-driven, low-code or engine-style platforms
Hands-on mindset: you actively build critical parts yourself
Strong technical decision-making skills and experience with cross-team collaboration
