Vacancy: Backend TypeScript Engineer Amsterdam
- Do you want to grow into a truly strong backend engineer by building systems where correctness, security and scalability are non-negotiable?
- Do you have experience with a strongly typed backend language and see programming languages as tools rather than identities, while being happy to work primarily with backend TypeScript?
- And do you want to work with very smart engineers and business people to genuinely disrupt a market that has been dominated for years by large, slow-moving incumbents?
- Do you say yes to strong mentorship, an indefinite contract from day one and being part of an amazing tech culture within a medium sized tech company with over 30 different nationalities?
Then this role is very likely worth your attention.
Your employer: a cloud-native fintech scale-up changing how payments are built
Your employer is a fast-growing fintech scale-up building a modern, payment-grade platform from first principles. While traditional players in this market still rely on heavy legacy systems and complex processes, this organisation takes a fundamentally different approach.
By building cloud-native from day one and making deliberate technology choices, they are able to move faster, build more reliable systems and offer a better and more cost-effective alternative to customers. This is how they challenge companies that have been sitting on the throne for decades.
Disruptionhere is not a buzzword. Engineers work closely with product and business colleagues to rethink how payments should work today, rather than accepting how they have always worked. Technical decisions and business decisions reinforce each other, and engineers have real influence on how the product evolves.
The engineering culture is high-bar, but human. Teams are made up of builders, not people optimising for titles or politics. Emotional intelligence matters. Feedback is direct and respectful. Ownership is expected and supported.
You join a truly international environment with more than thirty nationalities represented. There is a strong social side to the company, with people enjoying spending time together beyond their daily work. Despite the ambition and pace, it feels like a place where people belong.
Your job: Backend TypeScript Engineer Amsterdam
As a Backend TypeScript Engineer, you work on the core of the payment platform. You design, build and operate backend services that handle sensitive, high-volume financial data and need to behave correctly under all circumstances.
You own services end to end. From design and implementation to testing, deployment and operation in production. You work on distributed systems where failure handling, observability and data consistency are part of everyday engineering decisions.
TypeScript is the primary language, but the team is deliberately polyglot in mindset. Engineers come from JVM and Go backgrounds as well. What matters most is your understanding of backend fundamentals and your willingness to learn and take responsibility.
You collaborate closely with other backend engineers, infrastructure and product to continuously improve the platform. You receive frequent feedback and support from senior, principal and lead engineers who actively invest time in helping you grow, whether that is in system design, testing strategy or operating services at scale.
As you gain experience and ownership, there is a clear path to grow into a senior, lead or principal backend role within the company.
