Your job: Senior Java Backend Engineer Hoofddorp

When you step into this role you join at a moment where the platform is undergoing significant growth, and much is still to be shaped. The backend is developed in Java 21 with Micronaut in a modern containerised cloud environment, making it a perfect time to leave a lasting architectural mark.

You design and build the platform that customers will use as their single control centre. They will monitor devices, configure products, manage prices, run promotions, trigger commands and ensure global fleets operate smoothly around the clock. Your work directly determines how reliable, scalable and intuitive this experience becomes for clients worldwide.

On a typical week you design event driven services that process real time device events coming in day and night. You build API surfaces that help customers manage and observe their IoT fleets. You architect systems that will support thousands of devices today, and millions tomorrow. You help consolidate functionality from acquired systems into one unified global platform, setting standards that future teams will follow.

It is a role where backend craftsmanship meets real world impact. You are not just writing code. You are building the global infrastructure that powers physical devices people depend on every day.

Over time, as the team expands, you can naturally grow into leading a subteam of your own, owning larger pieces of the platform and shaping the engineering culture around you.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience with Java
• Strong experience with modern Java (11+, ideally 17 or 21) and frameworks such as Micronaut or Spring Boot
• Experience with event driven architectures, messaging systems and API first backend design
• Strong understanding Docker, CI/CD and monitoring
• Communicative engineer who enjoys working closely with product and business stakeholders
• Pragmatic mindset with a focus on clean code, testing, reliability and scalability
• EU passport (no visa sponsorship possible unforunately)
• Bonus: experience with IoT, distributed systems or mentoring
