Your employer: builds an IoT platform with real societal impact

You join a core technology company from the Utrecht region that builds its own IoT platform. More than 50.000 devices in the field continuously send data, and that platform helps fight crime and protect valuable objects. For you that means something rare: you are not building an internal tool no one sees, but software with direct impact on Dutch society, and you get real satisfaction out of it.

The company is in a growth phase. There are companies being acquired, which continuously brings new features and plenty of new development, and there is heavy investment in AI, both in the daily work and in the platform itself. Where development currently happens largely remotely, an engineering team is deliberately being built in the Netherlands, closer to the product. You step in while that team takes shape, and you have direct influence on it.

The culture is technical and entrepreneurial, with plenty of freedom and ownership. Not everything is set in stone, so you help decide where the platform is heading, and exactly the person who proactively brings ideas thrives here. Because the team is small and close-knit, you are involved everywhere and learn much more in a short time than in a large, rigidly structured organization.

Your role: Senior Backend Engineer .NET Utrecht

As a Senior Backend Engineer .NET Utrecht you build and maintain the core of the platform: the services that process enormous volumes of IoT data in realtime. Every device sends messages continuously, and they have to be processed at high speed and reliably. No data may be lost and the systems must keep running 24/7, because the service running on top of it is business-critical for the customer.

That makes this true high-availability engineering. You work with event-driven architectures on Azure, with Event Hub, Service Bus and API Management, with Cosmos DB for the event data and SQL Server for the relational side, all in .NET. The challenge lies in scale, reliability and correctness under continuous load, while you keep deploying without interrupting the service.

Your role is broader than backend alone. You think along about testing, CI/CD and infrastructure as code, and about how to get value reliably live. Because the company grows and acquires other companies, you regularly add new greenfield functionality, with plenty of ownership over the architectural choices that will be decisive for years to come.

Growth opportunities:

For you there is a path to grow into a tech lead here. There are already two junior engineers, and as a senior you build up the Dutch team, you coach juniors and increasingly set the technical direction. So you don’t just grow technically, you literally build your own team and position.

What are we looking for?

At least 6 years of experience as a backend engineer
Strong in .NET and the Microsoft ecosystem
Demonstrable experience with event-driven or realtime data streaming
Experience with a cloud platform, preferably Azure
A feel for high availability, reliability and correctness at scale
A broad view: besides backend, an eye for testing, CI/CD and IaC
Ownership and a proactive, collaborative attitude, close to the business
Experience mentoring junior developers is a plus
Good communicator in English, open to learn Dutch
