Your role: Lead Java Kotlin Backend Engineer Amsterdam

As Lead Java Kotlin Backend Engineer Amsterdam, you will take on long-term projects where engineering makes the difference. Expect highly scalable distributed systems with strong reliability and performance demands. Typically in scaleups or product organizations just beyond the startup phase.

Most of your work is remote, with one or two days per week on-site. You decide where you can create the most impact.

What you'll be doing

•  Build scalable cloud-native backends using Java or Kotlin with Kubernetes Docker AWS or GCP
•  Contribute to architectural design, system design CI CD and observability
•  Collaborate closely with product designers cloud and data engineers in multidisciplinary teams
•  Take technical ownership and act as sparring partner for clients and colleagues
•  Guide clients toward technical maturity – from architecture to engineering culture
•  Technically challenging and strategically impactful

You’ll lead the JVM unit and co-develop the organization with other leads in data cloud and product together with the founders growing from an innovative engineering consultancy into a full-fledged venture builder within the Dutch tech scene.

What’s required

•  8+ years of backend engineering experience using Java or Kotlin
•  Experience in modern cloud-native environments with AWS or GCP using Docker and Kubernetes
•  Proven technical leadership and mentoring skills
•  DevOps mindset including CI CD observability and infrastructure as code
•  Experience with Go or Node.js is a plus not a must
•  Experience in high-performance or large-scale systems
•  Graph database experience is a strong plus
•  Entrepreneurial spirit and the drive to build and grow something of your own
