Your role: Engineering Manager Platform Team Utrecht
As Engineering Manager Platform Team Utrecht, you lead a multidisciplinary Platform teamconsisting of backend engineers, SREs and data engineers. This team enables the rest of the engineering organisation by providing a stable, scalable and developer-friendly foundation.
Your primary responsibility is not to out-code your team, but to help them perform at their best.You remove blockers, improve collaboration, create clarity and help people grow.You keep a high-level overview of what the team is doing, why it matters and how it connects to broader product and company goals.
You come from a development background and understand modern software engineering well enough to actively participate in technical discussions. You can comfortably talk about backend systems, infrastructure, CI/CD, cloud-native architecture, Kubernetes and Infrastructure-as-Code. At the same time, you rely on your team’s technical expertise and empower them to own the details.
You balance people management with hands-on involvement in a way that fits you and the team. Some Engineering Managers in this organisation stay close to the code, others focus more on coaching, coordination and strategy. You have the freedom to shape this role based on your strengths.
Your responsibilities include:
- Supporting engineers through 1-on-1s, feedback, coaching and career development
- Creating a safe, energetic and productive team environment
- Hiring new team members and owning performance cycles, reviews and growth plans
- Helping the team prioritise work, manage capacity and stay focused on delivering value
- Building strong bridgeswith product, data and other engineering teams
- Keeping standards high around modern cloud engineering practices, without micromanaging
- Helping the organisation mature its way of working as it continues to scale

What is required
- A background in software development, with a solid understanding of modern backend and cloud engineering
- Experience leading or coaching engineers in a product-driven environment
- Strong understanding of cloud-native concepts such as CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code, containerisation and platform thinking
- Good understanding of Kubernetes, Terraform or SRE-style teams
- Hands-on experience with AWS or another major cloud provider
- The ability to communicate effectively across disciplines including engineering, product and data
- High emotional intelligence and a people-first leadership style
- A strong product mindset and comfort working in a remote-first organisation
- The ability to successfully in a remote-first environment
