Your Job: Staff Backend Engineer Amsterdam

As Staff Backend Engineer Amsterdam, you will become one of the key technical pillars of the organisation. This is not a management role. It is a hands-on technical leadership position for someone who enjoys building systems, solving complex problems and taking ownership from idea to production.

You will design and build backend services in Go, help shape the architecture of the platform, improve data pipelines and analytics infrastructure, and ensure the systems continue to scale as adoption accelerates. As usage grows, you will face the challenges that naturally emerge around scalability, performance, reliability, observability and long-term maintainability.

Unlike many larger organisations, where engineers often own a small part of a much larger machine, you will have broad ownership across backend services, data flows and platform foundations. Your decisions will directly influence how the platform evolves over the coming years.

You will work closely with the founders, not simply receiving requirements but helping shape priorities, challenge ideas and make strategic technical decisions. For the right engineer, this creates a rare opportunity to become a genuine sparring partner and help determine what gets built next.

What is required?

• Strong commercial Go experience
• 7+ years of backend engineering experience
• Proven ownership ofsystems from design through production
• Strong database and data modelling experience
• Experience with scalable and data-intensive systems
• Experience making architectural and technical decisions
• Strong communication skills
• Ownership mentality and entrepreneurial mindset
• Experience within startups or scale-ups is a strong plus
