Your job: Lead Software Engineer Amsterdam Java Scala

As Lead Software Engineer Amsterdam Java Scala you are in the driver’s seat to make an impact! Architecture, design, development, coding standards, client wishes, PoC’s, you have a say in all of this! You, together with the Data Architect and Project Owner are the starting point of any client challenge. You will get to meet with them, hear about their challenges, suggest the right solution, form your best team for the job and help to deliver the solution (yes! Definitely also coding!) while working from your head office here in Amsterdam. Starting with PoC’s/R&D and maturing the products in about 1 to 2 years’ time. All while working in a combined team of data scientists, data engineers and software engineers.

You will be responsible for translating challenges into technology and always being able to work with the best technology for the solution. Technologies you will get to work with are: Java8, Spring Boot, Scala, Akka, Python, Cassandra, MongoDB, HTTP, REST, Microservices, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Spark, Hadoop, AWS, Google Cloud, ElasticSeach and Docker. But hey, you choose the right stack for the job! Here you can combine creativity, curiosity and pragmatism with solid software engineering standards!

As Lead Software Engineer Amsterdam Java Scala you will furthermore be involved in the hiring process and being able to cherry pick the best mediors and seniors to work with in the future. In the meanwhile you help to continuously look at new technologies that can help the customers even better or software best practices that enable even better quality code to be produced by you and your team, as here they really embrace clean coding.

What is required:

7+ years of software engineering experience with Java AND/OR Scala
Strong communicative abilities
Experience with architecture and design
Experience with building highly performant and/or scalable systems
Experience with NoSQL solutions
A proponent of solid software engineering best practices like clean coding and proper testing
A strong communicator, curious, pragmatic and creative
Experience with Microservices is highly preferred
Experience with java8, Python and/or Spring Boot is a plus
Experience with Cassandra, Hbase or MongoDB is a plus
Experience with AWS, Google Cloud or Azure are pluses
Experience with ElasticSearch, Kafka, Hadoop or Spark are pluses
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or Continuous Delivery are pluses

What is offered:

Between € 70.000 and € 85.000 gross per year, based on added value
+ 10% yearend bonus

From their site and reviews they looked like very professional recruiters and i was not wrong. In about 2 weeks i had a couple interviews at a variety of big tech companies and got a good offer pretty soon thereafter.They guided, prepared me for the interviews and helped with the final negotiations. I was looking for a role as a senior Scala developer in Amsterdam/Utrecht region.I was specifically looking to apply for one company through CodeGuild, but in the initial interview they also presented me with a couple of other options for companies which would be a good fit for me.They were very friendly, helpful and supportive, without being pushy. There was targeted help with prep for the interviews/assessments which was specific to each company, and they enabled me to give the best account for myself (definitely better than if I'd been preparing on my own).In the end I accepted an offer from one of the companies they presented me with instead of the original company I had in mind.
